The Athenaeum
By 1883, within a decade of its founding, the Woman’s Club of Wisconsin was growing and had already become a beacon of light in our community. Its mission was to cultivate discourse and engage in serving the societal needs of our young city. A building was needed to house Club programs and to create a community presence. These visionary women started the first women-owned stock corporation in America to raise the funds to build The Athenaeum.
Today, we invite you to Take Stock In Our Future and celebrate “A Landmark of the City of Milwaukee.” Gala proceeds go toward preserving this historic building for generations to come.
